Jeff Crecelius, Travis Klanecky and myself ventured out to western Nebraska and stopped in to see Corey (Chasing4Life forecaster) in Imperial. After watching Vortex 2 make their first intercept of the season on TV where Corey works, we took off to see what we could get. We ended up on the same monster supercell that Vortex 2 was on in Wyoming. We were near Sidney Ne. On a few occasions the storm came very close to showing us a tornado. Travis did a superb job of navigating for us. The road system proved to be adequate (and dry which was really to our benefit).
A great storm and a long drive home. It was 3:15 am when I got home. Eddy Weiss and his crew had to dodge a storm at their home which we witnessed on xm radar to have insane rotation. Thankfully no injuries there. The hunt for tornadoes continues.
Here are some highlights from our chase on Sunday, June 7, 2009.

Jeff Crecelius and I left Hastings after church and met up with Scott Olson and Nick Hartley between Maryville KS and Seneca KS. We showed up just in time for storm initiation. We were on a tornado-warned storm for quite a while. It showed every sign of putting a tornado down, but it forgot to.
Great storm and target choice by Scott. Over 100 other chasers in the area. Learned the next day that friend and fellow chaser Fabian Guerra had died in a car accident on his way out to the plains Friday to meet up with some chase partners. Our prayers are with his wife and children.

Caught these quick snapshots above (through the truck window) just south of hwy 6 on Juniata Ave. in Hastings, Nebraska. Shaky video, but my first tornado capture of the season. Close to home, couldn't pass it up. Was able to run out right after a board meeting at work.

Thanks to a great target suggestion from Scott Olson, and a tad bit of nowcasting as well, I was able to be on top of the first tornado warned storm in Kansas this day west of Wichita. It was nice that the storm motion was only 18 mph. Plenty of time to get into position, everything you could ask for, except a tornado. Definitely worth the trip. Heard from team mate Corey with Chasing4life. It's nice to know there's people pulling for you when you're a long way from home.
